Two-Factor Authentication
What is two-factor authentication? Two-factor authentication is a security process that provides an additional layer of protection for your account beyond just a username and password. This is done by requiring users to provide an additional method to verify their identity.
Why am I being prompted for this?
Your firm requires you to set up two factor authentication before you can access their information. This guide will walk you through setting up your authenticator.
What additional method does Suralink use for Two-Factor Authentication?
For the highest level of security, Suralink only supports establishing Two-Factor Authentication through an authenticator application (e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass, DUO, Authy). We do not offer 2FA via text message or email. Our platform uses the term “Mobile Authenticator” because this is the most common choice.
You will need to set up an authenticator app on a device you have regular access to.
Alternatives: The connection method provided by Suralink is compatible with both mobile and desktop authenticators apps. If you would prefer not to use a mobile app, please contact your internal IT team to determine if they recommend or support an alternative desktop authenticator application that is compatible with the standard set up method.
How to set up two-factor authentication
1. When you first login, you will see a page telling you the firm requires you to set up two factor authentication. Click the green “Enable Mobile Authenticator” button. The page that comes up will walk you through the three steps of pairing your authenticator to Suralink.
2. Once you have an authenticator downloaded, click “Next Step.”
3. Scan the QR code from your Suralink page. (If you are using a desktop app, you can select the manual code option on this page.)
4. If prompted, follow the instructions in your authenticator to name the account. We recommend “Suralink” but the name can be anything you’ll easily associate with your Suralink account.
5. When your authenticator app provides a six-digit code, you’ll return to Suralink and click “Next Step.”
6. Enter the code the authenticator is generating into the box and click “Complete authentication”.
7. You will receive a green message telling you the authenticator was set up successfully.
8. When logging into Suralink, you will now be prompted to provide a 6-digit passcode after entering your username and password. Enter the code generated by the authenticator.
